The victim, Harold Marietta, 67, was getting into his vehicle at the Penn Valley Road home shortly after 7 a.m. when he was shot in the neck through the window, police said. He was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital in serious condition.

"He was conscious when we got down here. We did talk to him. All he was able to provide us with was he didn't know who shot him,” said Steve Limani, with Pennsylvania State Police in Greensburg.

Marietta’s wife saw the suspect running away after the shooting. The suspect is described as a 6-feet-tall white man seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and gloves.

Troopers said the person who shot Marietta had to know he would be getting in his car at that exact time.

“You almost think somebody would have to have a motive to come up to an isolated location and commit a crime like this,” said Marietta.

Schools, including Stanwood Elementary School, were placed on lockdown while police conducted a search of the area.

A Channel 11 News crew saw police with dogs surrounding the home, and a police chopper in the air.

As of 9 p.m. Thursday, authorities had no one in custody in connection with the shooting.
