PPG said Wednesday it will spend $70 million on the expansion of an aerospace transparencies plant in Alabama.
The Pittsburgh-based coatings manufacturer has been in Huntsville, Alabama, for more than half a century. The newest expansion will lease and build a 112,000-square-foot building that will be used for support activities, which will allow the manufacturing space to expand at its main building at 1719 Highway 72 E.
PPG makes transparencies for cockpit and passenger windows of all types of airplanes. That includes dimmable windows and shades, lenses for landing lights on the outside of the aircraft, plus water-resistant coatings and protection from ultraviolet and other solar radiation.
