Ross Township Police warning community about new Xfinity impersonation scam

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Ross Township Police Department is telling residents to be cautious of a new scam involving people pretending to be from Xfinity.

Officers say they have received several different reports about people receiving telephone calls from someone who says they are from Xfinity. The caller says they will give the victim 50% off of their cable bill for two years if they pay for one year of service upfront. They trick the victims into giving them financial information over the phone at that point.

One victim of the scam said the person who called them said Xfinity had partnered with Target and asked them to pay in Target store gift cards over the phone.

Anyone who receives these calls or similar calls should hang up and contact their service provider.

Police are asking any victims of the scams to contact their local police department.
