Several cars broken into in Downtown Pittsburgh during busy weekend

A total of 12 cars have been vandalized at a parking lot in Downtown Pittsburgh, including three this past weekend.

Pittsburgh police responded to the overflow lot for the Wyndham Hotel near Point State Park on Sunday.

All of the cars that were targeted were parked in the area by Commonwealth Place. Police said nothing was stolen from the cars.

“My car has been here overnight for the past two days. So it hasn’t happened to me yet,” Casey Benson said.

Channel 11 saw one of the cars that was hit while it was being driven away. The back passenger window was busted out.

According to Pittsburgh Valet, which runs the lot, two other cars were recently vandalized at the public parking lot across the street. Seven more vehicles parked on the street were also targeted, all having their back windows smashed out.

“I’m a very observant person, so I’m going to watch it closely. If it continues to happen, I’m going to have to find somewhere else to park my car,” Mark Gannon said.

The vandalism happened in the early morning hours, officials said.

“It doesn’t particularly spook me, I’ve been through worse. I guess I should be more cognizant of things like that. I don’t think of things happening like that in the city of Pittsburgh,” Benson said.
