Justin Watson of South Fayette will be going for his second Super Bowl Championship in three seasons on Sunday, as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Watson, a wide receiver who also attended Penn University, was on the Super Bowl LV Tampa Bay Buccaneers championship team with Tom Brady. Now he’s catching passes from Patrick Mahomes with a chance at a second ring.
Watson has been a champion everywhere he goes. He won a WPIAL and State Championship with South Fayette. He has two championship rings from Penn University, and a Super Bowl ring from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Watson’s family is a tight-knit group. It was Justin Watson’s older brother Tommy, and his battle with cerebral palsy, that inspired Justin after a two-a-day session in high school.
Watson’s father, Doug, told Channel 11 “He (Justin) was whining about being hot and his feet were hurting, and he looks up and there’s Tommy’s smile, and he goes, that’s it, he goes, no bad days.”
The Watson family still receives a lot of support from the community. Abby Watson, Justin’s sister, works at an area bakery. She said, “It’s just a good feeling, knowing that so many people that we don’t even know are supporting us.”
The Watson family will be in Arizona for the Super Bowl on Sunday.
