Channel 11 turned to the Better Business Bureau to help you find a trustworthy, competent contractor so you don’t get ripped off.
First and foremost, the BBB advises contacting your insurance company and documenting your damage by taking pictures or video.
Also, shop around and get at least three written estimates.
Before hiring a contractor, check with the BBB website about their complaint history as well as verified customer reviews.
And do other research, suggests Caitlin Driscoll of the BBB.
“Find accredited businesses that have been vetted,” she said. “Ask for references from people you trust, so neighbors, family and friends.”
Make sure that contractors are properly registered in Pennsylvania by checking with the attorney general’s office, Driscoll suggested.
