MUNHALL, Pa. — The Allegheny County SWAT team was called to a Munhall apartment building Thursday morning to assist police with a standoff.
Authorities said officers responded to Longfellow Drive about 10 a.m. for the report of a man barricaded inside an apartment.
According to police, a Munhall officer entered the apartment and found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
The woman, Bernadette Scholl, 74, died from her injuries, authorities said.
Scholl’s son, Anthony Scholl, 43, is accused of shooting her.
Scholl had previously spent time in prison for shooting his wife, the state Corrections Department confirmed.
Judy Joyner, a long time friend of the victim, said she spoke to Bernadette Scholl last night.
"I can't believe he did it,” she said. “We knew he was going to do something. We knew it.”
Bernadette Scholl’s daughter was also inside the apartment during the incident, police said.
Longfellow Drive was closed and residents near the apartment were told to stay inside their homes as the standoff unfolded.
Anthony Scholl was arrested and faces charges of homicide and weapons violations. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.
