Thousands return to downtown Pittsburgh for Zambelli fireworks show

Thousands returned to the downtown and nearby areas to watch the return of the Zambelli fireworks show after a five-year hiatus.

At Point State Park, It was a show with a pre-pandemic feel. Onlookers came from all over the region — happy to be back, and back to normal.

“I’ve been watching these fireworks since I was a kid, so I’m excited to see them back after a decade,” Dina Carsecka said. She made the trip with her family from Westmoreland County.

Twins Diego and Sebastian weren’t just there for the show. “I’m excited for the fireworks. I’m excited for the food.”

“It’s always good to be with these great Americans; always great and blessed to be out of the house. We made it through COVID, and we’re here and we’re excited about that,” Caleb Agnew said.

It wasn’t just folks from the Pittsburgh region taking in the sights and sounds. John and his wife traveled from the Big Apple.

“The fountain in the background, the people all around playing games on the field. It’s like life is returning,” he said.

The 2022 show also brought back a name synonymous with fireworks in the area, George Zambelli.

“It certainly is great for Zambelli to be back in Pittsburgh on the Fourth of July. It’s our hometown and we’ve put together a special program this year,” he said.
