Tow truck driver hit by truck before it crashes into abandoned house

BELTZHOOVER, Pa. — A tow truck driver was rushed to an area hospital after an accident Wednesday afternoon in Beltzhoover.

Authorities told Channel 11 News a truck converted into a tow truck was towing a car in the area of Climax Street and Estella Avenue in Beltzhoover around 2 p.m. when the driver got out to put something behind the tire.

The truck began to drift down the road and the driver tried to stop it, but was hit by the truck.

"I looked up the hill and saw the tow truck coming down.   I was in the car with my pregnant cousin.  I'm glad she told me to stop," said witness Renyja Thompson.

"For some reason, it jumped into gear and was gone," said witness Mark Krasausky.

The truck then continued drifting down the road and eventually slammed into an abandoned house.

The driver, whose name and condition haven't been released, was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital.

Friends of the driver told Channel 11's Pamela Osborne that he's in stable condition.
