Man becomes trapped on train tracks in a wheelchair

AUBURN, ILLINOIS — A 19 year old woman in Illinois has saved the life of a 75 year old man whose wheelchair became stuck on a set of train tracks.  Ashley Aldridge heard him calling for help and ran out to help.  "I tried lifting his wheelchair up from the bottom, because his back wheels were stuck. I tried lifting it up, but it wouldn't move at all.  And that's when I decided I needed to keep trying.  And I lifted him up just enough where I could lean the wheelchair back and he kind of slipped backwards towards me and I started pulling him and that's when the train hit the wheelchair."

Seconds later the train blasting through the crossing, destroying the wheelchair.  Ashley Aldridge said she was just fixing her lunch when she heard him calling for help.  Then she heard the railroad crossing alarms start sounding.

She said someone must have called 911 because there was a police car waiting on the other side of the crossing after the train passed.
