Man says someone used electronic device to unlock his car, steal items

PITTSBURGH — A rash of car thefts have been reported in a Pittsburgh neighborhood.

Pittsburgh police said eight car thefts happened in the past month in various neighborhoods.

One victim told Channel 11 that the thief used a universal fob to get inside his car.

“I believe he had a device or a code reader,” said the victim.

The victim lives on Tyndall Street. He said other neighbors had cash and electronics stolen from inside their cars.

He shared surveillance video from the incident on Feb. 6.

His car was locked and parked in the driveway. But in the video, he said a mysterious man walked up with a device and had no problem getting inside.

“It’s kind of scary,” he said. “You see it on the news all the time but never think it’s going to happen to you until it does,”

Pittsburgh police said they are investigating the thefts but so far, no arrests have been made.

The victim showed us video from his Ring doorbell camera showing the suspect walk up, use a device in his hand and then get into his parked car.
