PITTSBURGH — A major project with several different phases is getting underway with a major renovation to areas of the Upper Hill near the Peterson Events Center.
Officials with the University of Pittsburgh announced Tuesday the Victory Heights athletic-themed development at a price tag of $250 million.
The plan includes a 3,500 seat arena for volleyball, wrestling, and gymnastics, an indoor track and a multi-sport training facility. There will also be renovations to the baseball and softball fields.
Also part of the plan is a state-of-the-art athletic performance center housing sports medicine, nutrition and strength programs.
“Our community and government relations team has been in the neighborhoods, sharing our plans, soliciting input from our neighbors. Based on those reactions, at this point, we think people are pretty excited about it,” Pitt Chancellor Patrick Gallagher said.
Ground is scheduled to be broken on the project next summer.
