PITTSBURGH,None — The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Department of Education and Community Engagement celebrated spring in Pittsburgh's Cultural District with its festive Gallery Crawl on Friday. See & Be Seen's Carly Noel was at the event and took pictures along the crawl.
"The Gallery Crawl is a welcoming gateway for art-centric exploration in Pittsburgh's Cultural District and a great opportunity to bring people together for socializing and sharing a curiosity for varied art forms," said Senior Manager of Education and Community Engagement Kathryn J. Heidemann.
New events at the spring crawl included a Silk Screen Asian Arts Organization performance showcase in Katz Plaza, the newly-formed Pittsburgh's Public Action Communitarian Theatre at the Trust Arts Education Center, live music by Boca Chica at the Backstage Bar and Pittsburgh Architectural Clubs' debut exhibition.
Visual and performing arts happenings took place in 20 spaces in the Cultural District. Spaces included 937 Liberty Avenue, Backstage Bar, Toonseum, SPACE, Shaw Galleries and the Harris Theater.
Inside of 937 Liberty Avenue, Bricolage presented a series of artwork, installations, impromptu debates and music -- all aligned with the themes of its upcoming production of "Speech & Debate."
Live music by indie folk/alt-country pop band Boca Chica kept the party going at the Backstage Bar.
A rare exhibition, featuring original animation art from the groundbreaking Anime classic Akira, was found inside of Toonseum.
An art exhibition called "Rock, Paper, Scissors" was inside of SPACE. The exhibition linked three galleries in three Pittsburgh neighborhoods and featured local, national and international artists. Each venue focused on one of the three titular materials (Rock - SPACE, Paper - Artists Image Resource/AIR and Scissors – Fe).
Local artist Joan Milsom's exhibit "The Long Span" was at the Shaw Galleries. The mini-retrospective exhibit featured oils, watercolors and mixed media works.
Short films made in the Pittsburgh area were looped at Harris Theater during the crawl.
