A young woman told police on Monday that she was driving on Mulligan Hill Road near Robinson, Indiana County, and rolled through a stop sign. She told police that a newer black unmarked Mustang with tinted windows followed her for about 10 minutes, flashing its high beams, until she pulled over.
A man dressed in police duty gear approached her car, carrying a handgun and a baton. She told police that the man didn’t have a name tag and he let her go without getting any of her information.
Kristin Gornick, who lives nearby and drives between Indiana and Westmoreland counties every day, said she’s not sure how she would react if she were in that situation.
“It’s scary because for one, I travel back and forth with my children all the time, so if they're not legitimate police, what do they want? What could happen to me or my kids in the vehicle? That's very scary,” Gornick said.
A similar incident was reported last week in Armstrong County when a man impersonating a police officer pulled over a woman on Route 422. The man asked to see the woman’s underwear, and she sped away and went to the police station to report the incident.

State police said people who find themselves in an uncertain situation should pull into a public place and put on their four-way flashers. They should make sure the vehicle pulling them over has an HD multiple light system, not bubble lights. People can call 911 if they’re unsure if the person is a real police officer or an impersonator.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call state police in Indiana County.
