93-year-old WWII veteran not letting coronavirus slow him down

PITTSBURGH — Stanford Friedberg doesn’t let anything slow him down, not even COVID-19.

“It didn’t scare me. I knew it could be bad. I could get over it,” he said.

That optimistic attitude has a lot to do with the kind of life Friedberg has lived. He’s 93 years old, served in WWII and two years ago became the world’s oldest heli-skier.

When Friedberg tested positive for COVID-19, his natural reaction was to fight.

“I couldn’t do anything – walk, eat – couldn’t do anything,” he said. “I had a lot of stomach distress.”

He was in the ICU for four days.

Friedberg said his daughter and granddaughter had COVID-19 as well. They were able to recover. His friend, however, was not able to overcome the virus.

Now, Friedberg told Channel 11 he is feeling much better and is eating and moving well again.
