‘Bless A Dress’ provides hundreds of Pittsburgh area girls with prom dresses for free

ALLEGHENY CO., Pa. — More than 1,200 dresses were up for grabs for local girls this weekend, all to make sure they fell their best for prom.

This was the fifth year for “Bless A Dress.” The program provides prom dresses free of charge, and the woman who helped organize it said there is a definite need.

Hundreds of dresses – new and gently used, in all colors and sizes – were hung up on racks at the North Hills Community Baptist Church, which looked more like a department store as high school girls shopped for the perfect dress.

For the first time, Bless A Dress was held on two days – Friday night and Saturday morning – with a huge turnout.

“The girls that come through here, their families are so grateful,” said Michelle Simon, one of the organizers. “The stories that were here, the people that we meet are incredible, so we wanna make sure this keeps happening.”

The program is accepting donations for next year’s event.
