COVID-19 cases continue to increase as some areas will move into green phase this week

PITTSBURGH — Cases of COVID-19 continue to increase across Pennsylvania despite the majority of the state currently in the yellow phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s reopening plan.

In Allegheny County Monday, there was an increase of 28 new cases, bringing the number to 1,805. That included 1,697 confirmed cases and 108 probable cases. On Sunday, there were 24 more cases.

319 people have had to be hospitalized in the county and 150 people have died from the virus.

Across the state, there are 5,214 total deaths the Department of Health reported Sunday. There were 730 additional positive cases of coronavirus, bringing the state total to 67,713 cases.

State health officials report about 60% of patients have recovered from the virus and 328,382 people have tested negative so far.

In southwestern Pennsylvania, there are 3,618 positive cases:

  • Allegheny Co.: 1,777 positive cases, 26,461 negative cases
  • Armstrong Co.: 58 positive cases, 1,119 negative cases
  • Beaver Co.: 554 positive cases, 3,293 negative cases
  • Butler Co.: 219 positive cases, 3,391 negative cases
  • Clarion Co.: 29 positive cases, 644 negative cases
  • Fayette Co.: 94 positive cases, 2,914 negative cases
  • Forest Co.: 7 positive cases, 64 negative cases
  • Greene Co.: 27 positive cases, 704 negative cases
  • Indiana Co.: 89 positive cases, 1,151 negative cases
  • Lawrence Co.: 74 positive cases, 1,140 negative cases
  • Mercer Co.: 104 positive cases, 1,338 negative cases
  • Venango Co.: 8 positive cases, 460 negative cases
  • Washington Co.: 138 positive cases, 3,823 negative cases
  • Westmoreland Co.: 440 positive cases, 8,275 negative cases

Some areas of the state, including Lawrence, Clarion, Venango and Forest counties will move into the green phase on Friday.

According to the United States Census Bureau, there are 12.8 million people in Pennsylvania.
