CRANBERRY — The YMCA in Cranberry has never offered child care before but because of the challenges with balancing parent work schedules with their children’s school schedules, the facility is stepping up.

Kids in kindergarten through eighth grade can be enrolled to help out working parents during the pandemic.
“We had to do something,” YMCA Executive Director Carrie Ohorodnyk said.
Cranberry Township Parks & Recreation is also offering alternatives for parents, including an out-of-the-box kids club. A before and after school program is now extended through the entire day to help families navigate new school protocols.

“We had to think of progressive, out-of-the-box ways to deal with this,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Dave Hunter.
Both programs will help kids with their virtual learning and will offer fun activities for children. The YMCA will also be installing a new playground with donated funds.
