Drug-sniffing dog in Pittsburgh helps find $250K worth of cocaine in package, police say

PITTSBURGH — A drug-sniffing dog in Pittsburgh found $250,000 worth of cocaine in a package that was headed to Erie.

Jonathan Vargas, 33, is now facing federal charges.

The package had a return address in Puerto Rico and when it arrived in Pittsburgh, it was flagged, police said.

Cocaine was found inside the package, replaced with a fake powder and then continued its delivery to Erie, according to police.

Once the package was accepted, police arrested Vargas during a traffic stop.

Officers also found a gun and $12,000 in cash inside his house, police said.
