Eaglet No. 2 hatches hours after sibling in Pittsburgh’s Hays bald eagle nest

PITTSBURGH — The second eaglet of the year hatched Tuesday night in Pittsburgh’s Hays bald eagle nest.

Hours after its sibling, the second eaglet emerged from its shell just before 10 p.m., the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania announced.

One egg remains in the nest, and it’s expected to hatch on or around Friday, the Audubon Society said. Bald eagle eggs typically take around 35 to 38 days to hatch.

Now that there are two eaglets and an egg in the nest, the Audubon Society said an adult bald eagle will stay on the nest constantly.

Food will be brought to the nest by an adult for the eaglets.
