Family remembers Air Force vet, volunteer, sister after Oakland bus accident

PITTSBURGH — Susan Flaherty and other family members are mourning the loss of their sister and family member after a tragic accident in Oakland.

“I never had to ask anyone for help but I have no doubt that if I had to ask Jeanne for anything at any time, she would have done whatever it was and walked through fire for any of us,” Susan Flaherty said.

Susan Flaherty said she couldn’t sleep all night and started looking up her sister on the internet. She found a pair of her military boots were being stored in the Heinz History Center. Jeanne Flaherty was considered a pioneer for women in the military.

“She’s not this nameless, faceless old lady. She was a special sister and she served her country. She was very proud of that and we were too,” Susan Flaherty said.
