PITTSBURGH — The owner of several Pittsburgh-area businesses and the former accountant for a nationwide egg supplier has been indicted as part of a federal embezzlement investigation.

According to Acting United States Attorney Stephen Kaufman, Jonathan Weston, 57, of Canonsburg, was charged with one count of fraud conspiracy, one county of money laundering conspiracy, two counts of willful failure to file tax returns and two counts of filing false income tax returns.

Weston was a former employee of Hillandale Farms Co. located in Greensburg. He worked there from October 2005 to January 2019 and is accused of engaging in a scheme to embezzle approximately $6.8 million. He then allegedly tried to launder the money through businesses he and another person controlled. Weston tried to buy collectible cars, real estate and “engage in lavish personal expenditures,” according to investigators.

Officials said Weston also failed to file tax returns in 2015 and 2018, and filed false returns in 2016 and 2018.

Weston faces a maximum sentence of 58 years in prison and a fine of $2,255,000 or both.
