PITTSBURGH — For communities like Sheridan, finding fresh fruit and vegetables without a full-service grocery store can be difficult, but now Giant Eagle’s Mobile Markets brings shopping close to home.
About 20 minutes is how long Betty Drewery had to travel by car to get her weekly groceries, but she no longer drives.
“That made it kind of hard and difficult if I needed something quick. I’d have to wait until my kids got off work or they’re available,” Drewery said.
But that has changed.
Now Giant Eagle offers mobile markets in communities like Drewery’s that don’t have a grocery store.
“There was nothing here,” said Myron Terry, a director at the Jasmine Nyree Campus which hosts the mobile market in Sheridan.

The Jasmine Nyree Campus also partners with Giant Eagle to deliver groceries on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“Just imagine getting on the bus or having to call an Uber to get a bag or two of groceries,” Terry said.
Also, every Friday afternoon, the mobile market pulls up to the Jasmine Nyree Campus and serves the Sheridan community with more than 300 essential food items.
“There is everything from your fresh produce to your dairy, a lot of meat items, all your essential food items,” Dan Donovan said.
More mobile markets will be popping up as Giant Eagle expands this permanent initiative. In addition to Sheridan, there are markets in Braddock, Homewood, Larimer and Rankin.
“We envisioned the mobile market as just one piece of the puzzle, to help to serve that greater need (of food security),” Donovan said.
Drewery said, so far, it is working.
“Everything I needed, I received,” she said.
The Giant Eagle Mobile Market is available from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Friday at the Jasmine Nyree Campus in Sheridan. For a complete schedule click here.
The Jasmine Nyree Campus said orders for delivery on Tuesday must be placed by noon on Monday. Orders for Thursday delivery must be placed by Wednesday at noon.
