Murder or self-defense: Woman in court charged after hitting man with car

PITTSBURGH — A McKeesport woman is now charged with criminal homicide after allegedly hitting her neighbor with her car. But he was not the person Jakiia Williams was supposedly trying to hit.

Leslie Robertson, 72, never recovered from his injuries and died seven months after the crash.

Williams is now charged with criminal homicide and several other felonies. Her attorney says she acted in self-defense.

"My client was being threatened by one if not more people with gun or guns," Williams' attorney said. "When someone is fleeing for their own life, being shot at, and they accidentally strike a person, it's tragic, but it's not homicide. It's not a murder."

A detective testified that he heard two gunshots and found shell casings, but there was no damage to the car and no evidence the shots were connected to the crash. A neighbor said those shots were fired after Robertson was hit.
