Hazardous materials team responds to controlled ammonia leak at Consumer’s Produce

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Public Safety Hazardous Materials Team responded to the scene at a controlled ammonia leak inside Consumer’s Produce in the Strip District.

Team members, in HazMat gear, were said to be going inside to check levels to ensure safe conditions for repair teams to enter and repair the leak.

According to Public Safety officials, team members safely exited the building after conducting a check of the ammonia levels.

It was determined it was safe enough for repair crews to enter the building and fix the leak if equipped with the appropriate PPE.

No one was injured.
