Man heard screaming for help as flames engulfed home in Allegheny County

WALL BOROUGH, Pa. — A man was heard screaming for help as his home went up in flames Wednesday morning in Wall Borough.

Flames and smoke engulfed the home after the fire started about 7:30 a.m. on Dawson Street. A neighbor heard the screams from inside.

Thankfully, the homeowner was able to get out with the help of police. However, he had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

As the fire burned, a leaking propane tank caught fire on the front porch, officials said.

Most of the damage to the home happened in the front. The fire chief said the flames burned through the floors.

Chuck Slepsky, a retired firefighter who lives a couple streets over, heard the 911 call and raced over to help.

“It was pretty scary, you know. You’re thinking, what can you do? You’re in civilian clothes. You don’t have protection when in the fire service. It was hair raising,” Slepsky said.

People who live in the home next door were evacuated as a precaution.
