Man pleads guilty to hit-and-run that killed elderly man

GREENSBURG, Pa. — A man was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to a hit-and-run that left an elderly man dead.

Jonathan McElroy pleaded guilty to all four counts he was charged with, including the most serious of causing an accident involving death.

McElroy hit Clarence Wolff, 86, while he was crossing the street with his family as they were heading to Degennaro’s restaurant on Route 819 in south Greensburg last April.

Wolff died at the hospital four days later.

McElroy fled from the scene and wasn’t found until about 2 weeks later at his workplace, Crivellis Cheverolet in Mount Pleasant Township. That’s where police found his damaged car

He initially tried to lie about his whereabouts that day, but on Monday, he told the judge he was sorry for the lack of integrity that he showed.

McElroy was sentenced three to six years for that guilty plea. He will also lose his license for a year upon being released.
