Pennsylvania sets another record Tuesday for daily COVID-19 case increase

HARRISBURG, Pa. — With 2,751 new cases of COVID-19, Tuesday’s number is Pennsylvania’s largest daily increase since the pandemic began, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The statewide total for cases of the virus reached 198,446 Tuesday.

Officials said the state’s daily increases are now comparable to those in April.

There were 23 new deaths reported Tuesday, bringing the statewide total to 8,696.

Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

Significant increases in the number of COVID-19 cases among younger age groups, particularly 19 to 24 year olds, are being seen, the Department of Health said.
