Raw sewage buildup wreaking havoc on Turtle Creek neighborhood

ALLEGHENY CO., Pa. — It’s a Turtle Creek family’s worst nightmare.

Raw sewage is running down a hillside, into their yard on Seneca Street and stinking up the whole neighborhood.

“It’s really disgusting and some days the smell is unbearable,” said Karen Horvath. “There’s toilet paper and just sewage. You can see the toilet paper running out so you know what’s going on with that.”

The source turned out to be an exposed pipe hovering above ground on the hill next to Horvath’s house -- with sewage spilling out of it.

But that’s the least of Horvath’s worries.

A water company is now testing what is floating in her basement. Horvath fears it is also sewage, and she told Channel 11 she is getting the runaround from everyone she calls.

“It just started running into my basement,” Horvath said. “The borough said they couldn’t do anything, that it was a health department issue. So my daughter called the health department and they said that’s absolutely a borough issue.”

Channel 11 tried to get in contact with city officials, including the mayor and council members, but no luck.

The Allegheny County Health Department immediately responded and is in contact with Horvath, working to get to the bottom of the case.
