Sewage problem contributing to landslide; cars getting stuck

PITTSBURGH — A sewer line break is contributing to a landslide in Pittsburgh’s Spring Hill neighborhood, according to officials.

Barriers are set up on Gershon Street at Sunset Avenue, but some drivers have ignored them and gotten stuck.

Overnight Thursday, one car had to be towed. Officials said it was one of three incidents in recent days.

"it's not just around here, it's everywhere," said resident LeAnn DeMuzzio.

Neighbors said landslides have been a problem on the road for years.

“It’s been like that for years. Nobody’s addressed it. All they did was put barricades up and put barricades where the road collapsed, but nobody’s really been out to fix it,” said William Miller, who lives nearby.

A Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority spokesman said the sewer line is a private line on Sunset Avenue.

"That's just what's been going on recently. That's not what caused the problem," Miller said.

He's calling for a retention wall or whatever it takes to solve the problem for good.
