Store in Regent Square burglarized, damaged just days before Christmas

PITTSBURGH — Small businesses have been through so much this year, and for a local grocery store, another hit came earlier this week in the middle of the night.

“Totally heartbreaking. Very sad to me and to all of us,” said Sherree Goldstein, co-owner of My Goodness market in Regent Square.

In the middle of the night earlier this week, someone threw a potted plant through the window.

“An enormous hole with shattered glass and a huge planter didn’t go through, but it was still outside with dirt all over the place,” Goldstein said.

The person who threw the pot didn’t just cause damage, they went inside and stole hundreds of dollars.

“The window is over $1000. We lost cash, time. It feels bad. There’s no rainbow at the end of this for us. We don’t feel good about any of it,” Goldstein said.

But the owners say closing down for a day to get things figured out, the week of Christmas, isn’t an option for them.

“We were open on time at 7 a.m. We boarded up the front windows staff came in and ready to work,” Goldstein said. “Our livelihood depends on it and we really care about our employees and we wouldn’t want to risk any income for anyone,” Goldstein said.

They also posted about what happened on social media, saying they need support now more than ever. And their community pulled through.

“We are so grateful for our customers. They’ve come. They’ve shown up. People are shopping and buying gifts which is amazing. We are grateful. We want to be there for you, and you for us, and keep moving forward,” Goldstein said.
