Vandals break into vending machines that help business owner’s kids, community

RANKIN, Pa. — A well-known community leader and entrepreneur is trying to turn a negative situation into something positive.

“I’m a former world champion. Next venture is I’m an inventor. I invent a lot of things, and I’m working hard in the market,” said Monty Meza Clay.

Clay is a former IBA world champion boxer, a Rankin native and a businessman — but he loves being a father more than anything.

“Teaching him to work. Teaching him how to build his own thing,” Clay said.

Clay showed us a video of himself and his son working on one of two businesses he created for his two children. They both have vending machines in Rankin.

The money will help fund their education in the future, and another portion of it helps the Rankin community.

“It teaches them business. Absolutely, it’s about business. It gives them work ethic. My champ is not even two years old, and he is filling them already. He knows what to do,” said Clay. “And I’m able to create jobs for the community. The janitor comes to clean up; the kids come through to help load.”

Clay said his children’s businesses were recently targeted.

“Throw a brick through my first machine. I’m in the midst of cleaning that up. Come back Tuesday. Throw a brick through my son’s machine,” Clay said. “They took donuts candy.”

Clay can’t pinpoint why someone would do this, but he won’t let it get him down.

He is focused on cleaning everything up and getting back to serving his community.

“All you gotta do is ask. If you know me, if you come to my store, I give away every day,” Clay said.
