Woman critically injured in crash on McKees Rocks Bridge fighting for her life

MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. — A local woman is fighting to survive after a bad crash shut down the McKees Rocks Bridge and left her critically injured.

Even though the victim's family is going through a hard time, they are thinking of others and will hold a blood drive next month at the Baldwin Volunteer Fire Department.

"The first few days were definitely the hardest thing I've ever had to endure," said Kristy Gilespie, the victim's daughter. "We can't say thank you enough, but it's meant a lot. People are even making us meals."

Help is coming from friends and even strangers for Terry Hamilton, who is a wife, mother and grandmother.

"She is fighting. There's no doubt there's fight in that woman," Gilespie said.

Hamilton has been in the trauma intensive care unit since the crash on Feb. 15. Hamilton's husband was in the hospital for about a week, but her injuries are the most severe.

"He doesn't remember how it happened," Gilespie said. "Her elbow. Her pelvis is broken in numerous places. Her leg was broken in three places, her knee."

"More or less, just hearing her voice again and being able to talk to her again every once and a while once she does open her eyes," Gilespie said. "It would be a good idea just to give back given how much blood my mom's needed."

Hamilton has gone through more than 70 units of blood and countless surgeries.

Channel 11 asked police if the driver who caused the crash was drunk that night, and they said they are waiting for test results to come back.
