Animal shelter pleads for help to feed pets, animal lovers respond overwhelmingly

FILE PHOTO: An animal shelter in Maine nearly ran out of cat food, but the kindness of strangers filled the shelter's pantry within days.

BANGOR, Maine — This is one of those times when the power of social media can be used for good.

The food cupboard at Bangor Humane Society was nearly bare when shelter officials asked for help on Facebook over the weekend, WCSH reported.

In the post, they said they were caring for almost 300 animals at the shelter and in foster homes and only had about 32 containers of cat food left in the shelter's pantry.

They requested donations of cat food to either be dropped off at the shelter directly or ordered from its Amazon wish list.

One of the workers told WCSH that it was the largest amount of donations that came in at basically one time.
