DETROIT — Former Michigan Rep. John Conyers, who represented the Detroit area for five decades before resigning in 2017, has died. He was 90.

Conyers was the longest-serving member of Congress before resigning in 2017 amid concerns for his health and allegations that he sexually harassed several women who worked for him.

“My legacy can’t be compromised or diminished in any way by what we’re going through now,” Conyers said. “This too shall pass. My legacy will continue through my children.”
