Georgia woman accidentally shot, killed while husband cleaned gun, police say

THOMSON, Ga. — A Georgia woman was shot and killed when her husband's gun accidentally discharged as he was cleaning it, authorities said.

According to WRDW and WFXG, the incident occurred about 6 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Thomas Avenue in Thomson. Authorities said a 41-year-old man had been cleaning his firearm when it went off, striking his wife in the leg, the news outlets reported.

Emergency responders rushed the woman to an Augusta hospital, where she died, authorities said.
