WHARTON TOWNSHIP, Pa.,None — Dozens of family and friends gathered Monday evening to pray for several teenagers who were injured in a crash near Nemacolin Woodlands resort in Fayette County over the weekend.
One of the victims is the daughter of 84 Lumber founder Joe Hardy.
Paige Hardy, 16, was hurt when the car she was riding in crashed along Hardy Boulevard near the resort.
A total of six teenagers were in the car at the time of the crash, police said. Three were injured.
Hardy's friend, who was also hurt in the crash, spoke with Channel 11 News at the vigil.
"My friends need all of the prayers they can get at this point," said victim Gabbie Cellurale. "I havent slept for days. I'm trying to watch TV or whatever to keep my mind off of it."
Police said they believe the 17-year-old driver was drunk when he got behind the wheel.
Three of the teens, including Hardy, were flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Hardy was last reported in serious condition, while another teen was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the car has been charged, but state police have not said what those charges are.
"Based on the information provided, there has been [juvenile] criminal charges filed based on this incident," said Trooper Scott Krofcheck.
"It is sad. They're too young for this to happen to them," said friend Bethany Mitchell. "(Paige) is outgoing. She talks to everyone. She is fun to be around. She is a likeable person."
Police are investigating the cause of the crash. State police have not said if anyone else will be charged in the accident.
