Ex-Steeler Greene may be interested in returning as coach

PITTSBURGH — Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker and Hall of Fame member Kevin Greene may be interested in stepping in as the team's outside linebackers coach, now that Joey Porter has been suspended following his arrest Sunday night on the South Side.

"If my Steelers need me, I'm there. I hope they know that," Greene said Monday on Twitter.

He also said he was ready to return to football. After coaching the Green Bay Packers outside linebackers from 2009–2013, Greene stepped away from coaching in 2014. He served as as an intern linebackers coach for the Steelers in 2008 during training camp.

Greene also retweeted several fans Monday who were calling for him to replace Porter.

It was unclear Tuesday how long Porter will be suspended.

At his weekly news conference on Tuesday, Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin said that defensive coordinator Keith Butler can handle the outside linebackers if Porter is unable to return.
