Sidney Crosby leaves ice during Penguins scrimmage

CRANBERRY, Pa. — Sidney Crosby left the ice during the second period of the Penguins intrasquad scrimmage earlier this afternoon, and did not return. It’s unclear why he left the ice.

Head Coach Mike Sullivan did not comment on Crosby’s absence, per NHL policy.

“As the league had put forth these rules, we’re not permitted to comment,” said Sullivan.

The NHL is handling all information when players are absent from the ice. Crosby’s linemate Conor Sheary was asked about the absence of the captain.

“I don’t even need to touch on that,” commented Sheary. “I think it’s just a maintenance thing. I don’t think it’s anything.”

The Penguins continue training camp on Sunday. Games are scheduled to start again in about two weeks.
