Ones to Watch: Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier

BEIJING, China — Alexa Knierim skated in the 2018 Olympics with her husband but had to get a new partner for these winter games.

She and Brandon Frazier are ones to watch in Beijing.

The two did not compete at the National Championship last month because Frazier got COVID, but the selection committee awarded them a spot.

Knierim competed in the last Olympics with her husband, but he stepped away from figure skating because of an injury.

That’s when she and Frazier paired up, right at the beginning of the pandemic.

“We both had very successful careers with other partners and we both reached a point where it was time to start something new,” she said. “There’s a lot of great things that come with this new chapter of skating with Brandon, who’s not my spouse but just like a working partner.”

Pairs team skate begins on February 3, one day before the Opening Ceremony.
