People who were at the park told Channel 11 News there was a couple of feet of water in the park's tunnel. However, Chris Salerno, Kennywood's director of marketing, issued the following statement:
The park closed not due to flooding but due to heavy rains and forecast for additional inclement weather this evening. Note the tunnel that runs under Kennywood Blvd temporarily flooded as it occasionally does after a deluge. Typically the water reseeds after the storm ends as it did this evening. When the tunnel flooded this evening we exited guests out of an alternate exit- Gate 2.Guests exited in an orderly fashion. We provided as many guests as possible with complimentary rain-checks to return on another nicer day.
In other parts of the region, here were reports of downed trees in Westmoreland County, quarter-sized hail in Allegheny County and a creek outside of its banks in Lawrence County.

Because the storms will be slow-moving, the chance for heavy rainfall returns. Severe Weather Team 11 said much of the region is under a marginal risk for severe storms and flash flooding.
The unsettled weather will stick around through the weekend.
