PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh expects to soon move forward with a compromise strategy to tear down the building at 3441 Forbes Ave. in Oakland but take down and preserve the facade of the structure.
Mary Beth McGrew, the associate vice chancellor for planning, design and real estate at the University of Pittsburgh, updated the Oakland community on the matter before a Zoom meeting held by the Oakland Planning and Development Corp. on Tuesday evening.
Noting the fast deteriorating condition of the building, McGrew said the university will now take down the facade and store it in a climate-controlled facility in order to reestablish it later in front of a new modestly sized building to be constructed behind it.
