PITTSBURGH — UPMC has tapped a University Hospitals of Cleveland physician-executive with experience in China as the president of the system’s first hospital in China, which it will run in partnership with a Chinese conglomerate.
Dr. Randy Jernejcic will start Feb. 1 as CEO of the 500-bed hospital, which is being built in Chengdu, China, as part of a long-term deal between UPMC and Wanda Group. The Chengdu Wanda UPMC International Hospital is scheduled to open in 2023 and will be the first of several that will be owned by Wanda Group but run by UPMC, which has through its UPMC International arm much experience in the country and around the world.
