Family searching for answers weeks after 19-year-old struck, killed on I-376

PITTSBURGH — There are still a lot of questions nearly a month after a 19-year-old was struck and killed on Interstate 376.

Delmar Greer Jr. lived just two minutes from where he died.

“My brother was such an honorable person,” said Re-Del Greer, the victim’s sister.

Channel 11 News was there when family and friends of Delmar released balloons, honoring the teen who was hit and killed just off of the parkway east. Nearly one month later and no one is arrested.

“I want them to find out who hit my brother. I want them to find out how fast were they going,” Re-Del said.

Police said on April 29, Greer was found dead, lying in the middle of the street just off the Church Hill exit of the Parkway East. Troopers believe Greer got out of his car and was trying to walk home when he was struck by a car. He lived just minutes away.

“Very robbed. Very, very robbed,” is how Re-Del described the loss of her only brother.

Greer’s older sister said they waited weeks to see his body, and still haven’t received any of his personal belongings. The family was forced to have a closed casket for his funeral.

“I just couldn’t see him at all. I just had to see the casket closed they really hurt my heart, my parents his family, his friends,” Re-Del said.

Police said a driver called 9-1-1 when they ran over Greer’s body already lying on the road. That driver waited and gave the police his dashcam video.

Channel 11 News called both Church Hill and State police to get more answers

“Troopers evaluated for signs of impairment at the crash scene they didn’t see any signs of impairment at that time,” said State Trooper Rocco Gagliardi about the driver who called police.

Greer’s family said they believe that dashcam video may show who initially hit him and left him there to die.

Troopers said they’re combing through the footage to see if they can identify any additional drivers but said that will take time.

“At this time, we are looking at everything and anything,” Gagliardi said.

But Greer’s family said they want closure now, so they can finally begin their healing journey.

“Figure out who really did this and find the answers that they need to find for us to have closure,” Re-Del said.

State police are urging anyone with additional information to reach out to them.
