Beaver Falls woman escapes house fire

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — Residents along West 9th Street in Beaver Falls told Channel 11 that orange flames lit up the morning sky on Friday.

“My son was downstairs and heard cracking noises and looked out the kitchen window and you could see the flames shooting up from the fence,” said Cynthia Trunick.

Trunick and her son jumped into action when they realized their next-door neighbor’s home was engulfed in flames.

“He saw the neighbors were out and he grabbed the hose and started hosing the fence since it’s attached to our house and would have caught our house on fire also,” Trunick said.

Fire Chief Mark Stowe said he could see the black cloud of smoke before he left the station and when he arrived at the house, the first two stories were engulfed.

“One occupant was home at the time of the fire. She did escape on her own and she is okay. She made it out and she said the entire back of the house was on fire,” Stowe said.

Trunick tells Channel 11 that once the firefighters were there, she checked in with her neighbor, who was still in shock.

“I don’t think she knew what to think, I mean her house is up in flames. You are going to think, my god what I am going to do at this point,” Trunick said.

Stowe said one firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion at the scene but did not go to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
