ELIZABETH BOROUGH, Pa. — Neighbors in West Elizabeth reached out to Channel 11 after having trouble getting around.
“Inexcusable” was the word we heard from residents about the road conditions when the borough’s only plow truck broke down Friday morning.
“We have a lot of elderly folks around here, I’m just concerned with them driving through town. As you can see, the streets around here aren’t great at all and I’m really upset,” neighbor Mike Dell said.
The borough said they have one plow truck filled with salt, but it broke around 5 a.m. while treating the roads.
They fixed it around 8 a.m., so they were able to get some streets plowed. The truck broke again around noon, so crews have been using a backhoe to try to clear off the streets.
Frustrated neighbors say some roads have looked like this since Tuesday’s snowfall. We saw some neighbors today trying to shovel the road near their homes.
“Just got to pitch in and do what you can and hope for the best,” neighbor Renee Hallam said.
The borough said the plow was fixed again around 3 p.m. and were able to clear more streets and put down some salt. Neighbors say they understand it’s a small borough, there are limited resources and issues come up but they believe there should be a backup plan.
The borough says they are doing their best to clear all the roads for this weekend.
