Demolition in the works 4 years after Washington County landslide

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — Neighbors reached out to WPXI’s Cara Sapida with concerns about a landslide four years after she first covered the story.

Fallowfield Township officials condemned three homes on Woodward Avenue back in October 2018. Neighbors say nothing has been done since that day, but bricks continue to crumble.

“I thought that my house was gonna collapse. “I thought I was next,” said Kristen Sero, who lives directly below the homes.

Tracey Kash lives in front of the homes and calls the township repeatedly because of falling bricks.

“Every time I hear a loud noise I run outside and there’s bricks falling off the house! I witnessed the chimney fall off that house — it’s scary to be here having this right across the street from me.”

Fallowfield Township leaders talked to Sapida about their efforts to fix the situation. They said the landslide and demolition have been on every agenda for the last four years, but regulations and homeowner issues have stalled progress.

But just last night council members voted to buy one of the properties and start the procedure to tear it down.

Neighbors didn’t know of the vote and were extremely happy to hear progress is happening.

“I’m relieved. I hope the momentum continues,” Kash said.
