EXCLUSIVE: Video shows attempted break-in with hunting knife at South Side home

PITTSBURGH — Exclusive video obtained by Channel 11 shows a man trying to use a hunting knife during an attempted break-in on Pittsburgh’s South Side.

“I checked the camera, and it was straight out of a horror movie,” Danny Dillon told Channel 11.

Dillon is talking about the moment he opened his doorbell app and saw a man wearing a hood and a mask, pulling out a knife. Then, the camera cuts out.

“Immediately, I recognized this was a hunting knife. The blade was the size of my palm. And that’s a pretty serious weapon if it wanted to be,” Dillon said.

He then started to hear something at his kitchen window, so he ran over to that side of his house

“I immediately got up and went into the kitchen, and he was right there on the other side of the window. He was there working with his knife,” he said.

The two were face-to-face and Dillon confronted him.

“He looked up and he jumped and said, ‘Are you Jimmy?’ I said, ‘No, what are you doing?’ Then he apologized and sprinted off,” he added

A neighbor told Channel 11 that he actually saw a man who was on the video pacing around the house hours earlier, before the attempted break-in.

Dillon immediately called the police, who began searching for the man. At this point, detectives say they haven’t found him.

“To the community at large, keep your windows locked. I’m glad I did. You never know what’s going to happen.”
