PETERS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The former teammates of a college student who was murdered in Washington County last month are coming together to honor her by raising money for a nonprofit organization.
Karoline Heintz, 18, was found stabbed to death inside a vehicle near the California Public Library on Wood Street in August. Her boyfriend, Royce Jones Moser, 18, and his mother, Rachel Moser, were charged.
Heintz was a PennWest California University student who was about to begin her first semester. She was a member of the women’s soccer team.
Before heading to PennWest, Heintz played for Peters Township High School’s field hockey team for four years. Her former teammates from that team are working on raising money in her memory.
Their goal is to raise $10,000 for the One Love Foundation, a national nonprofit designed to help educate young people about the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships. A spokesperson said the organization also provides tools to prevent relationship abuse.
Donations will be collected through the Karoline25 fundraiser during the season.
The fundraiser kicks off with the Relationship Abuse Awareness Game on Monday, Oct. 5, where the team will launch the new “For Karoline, I Choose…,” campaign. The campaign is designed to give students a place to commit themselves to healthy relationships, respect, speaking up, setting boundaries and supporting friends.
Organizers highlight the “25 for 25″ challange as part of the fundraiser, which encourages $25 donations in honor of Karoline, who wore 25 on the field.
Her Peters Township field hockey teammates describe Karoline in the following statement:
“Karoline was a 2026 PTHS graduate and was preparing to begin the next chapter of her life and continue her athletic journey at PennWest California. To know Karoline, is to love her. She was kind-hearted, sweet, hardworking, and beautiful inside and out. She was the kind of friend and teammate you could always count on and someone who was always there for you, always in your corner, and always ready to cheer you on.
“She brought comfort, laughter, and joy to the people around her, and she had a way of making everyone feel loved. She was always smiling, and her smile couldn’t help but make you smile too. Karoline was so deeply loved by our PTFH family, and the friendships and memories she made with our team will always hold a special place in our hearts.
“Our angel Karoline was a light to everyone who knew her. We are so grateful for the time we were lucky enough to know her and for the love she brought into our lives. We will carry her memory with us always and tell the world about the kind of friend and person she was: her beautiful spirit, gentle heart, contagious smile, and the love she gave so freely.”
They added that Karoline had dreams of becoming a doctor.
