On Facebook. Ligonier Township officials say they made this declaration due to a salt shortage. They say the state of emergency allows them to buy rock salt from someone other than their contracted vendor. But, other salt vendors aren’t taking new clients.

The township is working to find salt with help from several area agencies.

“The salt shortage is affecting many municipalities in Westmoreland County, as most of us piggyback off of the state CoStars contract with Compass Minerals. Please use caution traveling throughout the county, as some municipalities may be reducing their usage in order to conserve their dwindling stockpiles, or may be out of salt entirely,” the post reads in part.
